¿Cuánto bebes? Lo normal. He oído alguna vez esta respuesta y decidí usarla como título ya que define de manera bastante precisa el tema del que trata esta propuesta. En el Estado Español, de donde conozco y he absorbido la cultura, existe una normalización preocupante del consumo de alcohol. Estamos acostumbradas a socializar alrededor de la ingesta de alcohol, tanto en bares, como en locales de ocio, como en comidas familiares o reuniones de amigas. Y esta situación no ha hecho más que aumentar después de la pandemia, cuando para salir del encierro el único lugar al que teníamos permitido ir era al bar.

En esta sociedad capitalista basada en el consumo en general tenemos una clara tendencia a asumir el alcohol como un elemento más de nuestra rutina, y a aceptar el estado de embriaguez como un punto necesario, o por lo menos totalmente “normal”, para reunirte con las amigas.

Para esta propuesta, decidí coger fotografías de reuniones familiares o de amigas, tanto en casas particulares como en bares, y estampar sobre la imagen de las mesas unas botellas de alcohol mediante xilografía, para destacar así cómo el alcohol parece estar presente en todos nuestros encuentros, y además es bienvenido.

How much do you drink? The usual. I have heard this answer before and I decided to use it as the title because it defines quite precisely the subject of this proposal. In the Spanish State, where I have absorbed the culture, there is a worrying normalization of alcohol consumption. We are accustomed to socialize around the consumption of alcohol, both in bars, as in entertainment venues, such as family meals or gatherings of friends. And this situation has only increased since the pandemic, when the only place we were allowed to go to get out of our confinement was the bar.

In this capitalist society based on consumption in general we have a clear tendency to assume alcohol as one more element of our routine, and to accept the state of drunkenness as a necessary point, or at least totally «normal», to meet with friends.

For this proposal, I decided to take photographs of family or friends meetings, both in private homes and in bars, and print on the image of the tables some bottles of alcohol by woodcutting, to highlight how alcohol seems to be present in all our meetings, and it is also welcome.
