Lost in translation es una expresión del inglés que significa “traducción perdida”. Se refiere a una palabra o palabras que han perdido o carecen de toda la sutileza de significado cuando se traducen del idioma original a otro, especialmente cuando se hacen literalmente.
La información en el mundo contemporáneo es un bien de consumo como los demás, y como tal está regida por patrones semejantes aquellos de las otras mercancías. Los medios de información tradicionales se aprovechan de la espetacularización y banalización de la información para mantener al espectador consumiendo obsesivamente información proveniente de fuentes bastante cuestionables.
Lost in translation es un found footage de 5 minutos de duración exhibido en bucle, en pantalla unicanal y videoproyección monofocal. Trata de la desinformación en la sociedad contemporánea a partir de la crisis del COVID-19 y del impacto de las redes sociales frente a los medios tradicionales de información. Su objetivo principal es transmitir bulos acerca del coronavirus que circularon en las redes sociales en los primeros meses de la pandemia.
Para ello, la pieza hace uso de subtítulos en castellano en videos elaborados con fragmentos de pronunciamientos de líderes políticos extranjeros, manteniendo el audio original. Su transmisión de manera conjunta y en una misma pantalla provoca confusión en el espectador por la cacofonía de voces y saturación de imágenes.
Los pronunciamientos incluidos en la pieza están vinculados a la gestión de los diferentes países de la crisis del COVID-19 y exhibidos en canales de televisión. La selección de dichos pronunciamientos tiene en cuenta la variedad de idiomas y países y excluye las naciones de habla hispánica, subrayando con ello el problema de la traducción a la que se refiere el título de la pieza.
Cada video está compuesto por fragmentos de diferentes discursos y trata de un bulo específico. El efecto final de los videos es de zapping, como si se cambiaran canales de televisión. Los videos mezclan frases completas de los líderes políticos con cortes abruptos, de forma que la información que se empieza a transmitir por un líder parece confirmada por los demás. Se utilizan bulos extraídos de páginas web dedicadas al análisis de la información que circula en las redes sociales.

Lost in translation is an English expression meaning «lost in translation». It refers to a word or words that have lost or lack all subtlety of meaning when translated from the original language to another, especially when done literally.
Information in the contemporary world is a consumer good like any other, and as such is governed by patterns similar to those of other commodities. Traditional media take advantage of the spectacularization and trivialization of information to keep the viewer obsessively consuming information from quite questionable sources.
Lost in translation is a 5-minute found footage film shown in a loop, in single-channel screen and monofocal video projection. It deals with disinformation in contemporary society after the COVID-19 crisis and the impact of social networks versus traditional media. Its main objective is to transmit hoaxes about the coronavirus that circulated in social networks in the first months of the pandemic.
To do so, the piece makes use of Spanish subtitles in videos elaborated with fragments of statements by foreign political leaders, maintaining the original audio. Their transmission together and on the same screen causes confusion in the viewer due to the cacophony of voices and saturation of images.
The statements included in the piece are linked to the management of the different countries of the COVID-19 crisis and exhibited on television channels. The selection of such pronouncements takes into account the variety of languages and countries and excludes Spanish-speaking nations, thus underlining the problem of translation referred to in the title of the piece.
Each video is composed of fragments of different speeches and deals with a specific hoax. The final effect of the videos is that of zapping, as if changing television channels. The videos mix complete sentences of the political leaders with abrupt cuts, so that the information that begins to be transmitted by one leader seems to be confirmed by the others. They use hoaxes extracted from web pages dedicated to the analysis of information circulating in social networks.
