A finales de abril de 2022, el presidente del Consejo Distrital de Salud Indígena Yanomami y Ye’kwana, denunció que los garimpeiros (mineros ilegales) habían violado y asesinado a una niña de la etnia yanomami, en el estado brasileño de Roraima. También había desaparecido otro niño yanomami de cuatro años. Denunció cómo los garimpeiros violentan sistemáticamente a mujeres, niñas y niños; y hay constantemente casos de violación hacia las yanomami.
Después, el pueblo yanomami desapareció; en total 24 personas, que o bien o han huido o han sido atacadas, han desaparecido dejando tras de sí un pueblo en llamas.
Estos sucesos han sido muy sonados en América del Sur y denunciados por activistas, artistas y políticos indígenas que rechazan la minería ilegal que avanza cada vez más y más en territorio de pueblos como el yanomami, y que además amenaza la integridad de sus habitantes, con estos feminicidios y ataques sistemáticos.
Estas noticias prácticamente no han llegado a nuestro país, dejándonos totalmente desinformadas y dando un claro mensaje de desinterés y de intención de ignorar estos sucesos por parte de los medios y de las autoridades.

In late April 2022, the president of the District Yanomami and Ye’kwana Indigenous Health Council reported that garimpeiros (illegal miners) had raped and murdered a Yanomami girl in the Brazilian state of Roraima. Another four-year-old Yanomami girl had also disappeared. She denounced how the garimpeiros systematically rape women and children, and there are constant cases of rape against the Yanomami.
Then the Yanomami people disappeared; a total of 24 people, who have either fled or been killed, have disappeared leaving behind a village in flames.
These events have been widely reported in South America and denounced by indigenous activists, artists and politicians who reject the illegal mining that is advancing more and more into the territory of peoples such as the Yanomami, and which also threatens the integrity of its inhabitants, with these feminicides and systematic attacks.
This news has hardly reached our country, leaving us totally uninformed and giving a clear message of disinterest and intention to ignore these events on the part of the media and the authorities.
